Why University Students will not Resume After Shutdown—ASUU
The Academic Staff of the University has raised alarm over contentious reason why the Students of Nigeria tertiary institutions that are on break will not resume on time The ASUU chairman disclosed that apart from the previous contentious issue in MOU, the Government are still owing the lecturers two months salary. He said:"The government has compounded the issue. In the last two months, our members in the federal universities have not been paid. You withheld people’s salaries and think such people would gladly go back?" Ogunyemi charged the Government to declare the state of emergency on Education Sector the way he has done to Health Sector and noted that there's tendency that the University lecturers would resume its strike after the shutdown regarding the COVID-19 outbreak is revertedReturning to class is not a big issue at all given the decisiveness and determination with which we address the current health sector crisis.”Recall that the Academic Staff Union of the University before the COVID-19 shutdown embarked on 2-weeks warning strike which started on March 9 and it later switched it to indefinite Strike on March 23, 2020.The Union embarked on strike so as to kick against the IPPIS imposed by the Federal Government and  to compel the government to implement its 2019 agreement and resolution with the union. The Illustrative Picture of ASUU chairman while addressing Press
